About this product

Smooth Milka Alpine milk chocolate set on top of small, crisp LU butter biscuits, so every square gives you chocolate and cookie in one bite.

Milka & LU is a milk chocolate tablet with crunchy LU biscuits built right into it. The biscuits make up about 26% of the bar, which is why it feels lighter and crisper than a plain chocolate bar. In Germany it is sold simply as Milka & LU.

The chocolate is Milka's Alpine milk chocolate, made with 100% Alpine milk and at least 30% cocoa solids. LU is a biscuit brand from the same parent company, Mondelez International.

Malincho sells it in the USA as an independent retailer.

Taste and serving ideas

How it tastes

The first thing you notice is the snap of the biscuit, followed by the soft, milky sweetness Milka is known for. The biscuit has a light, buttery flavor with a hint of malt and a tiny pinch of salt, which keeps the chocolate from tasting too sweet.

Ways to enjoy it

It is made for coffee breaks. Two squares next to a cup of coffee or tea feel like a small dessert plate of cookies and chocolate.

It also packs well for lunchboxes and road trips, and it makes an easy add-on to a European candy gift basket.

What makes it different

Most chocolate-and-cookie bars hide small crumbs inside the chocolate. Here the biscuits are whole pieces, so you get a real cookie crunch in every square instead of a few scattered bits.

If you like a sweet-and-salty mix, try its sister bar, Milka & TUC, which uses salted crackers instead of biscuits.

Try this: break a square into a bowl of vanilla ice cream. The biscuit stays crunchy while the chocolate softens.

Questions and answers

Does Milka & LU contain gluten?

Yes. The biscuits are made with wheat flour and wheat starch, and the recipe also contains barley malt extract, so it is not suitable for a gluten-free diet.

What allergens are in it?

It contains wheat, barley, milk and soy. It may also contain traces of egg.

How big is the bar?

It is an 87g (about 3.1 oz) bar, which the label divides into about 5 servings of 2 pieces each.

How many calories are in a serving?

About 89 calories per 2-piece (17.4g) serving, based on the European label.

What is it called in Germany?

It is sold as Milka & LU, and some German shops list it as Milka Tafel LU.

Where is it made?

It is made in the EU by Mondelez. European retailers list Germany or Hungary as the origin, so check the wrapper of your bar for the exact plant.

How should I store it?

Keep it dry and away from heat. A cool pantry works better than the fridge, which can soften the biscuits and dull the chocolate.
