About this product

Milka's extra-cocoa bar: Alpine milk chocolate made with at least 45% cocoa, for a deeper and less sweet taste than a classic Milka tablet.

Milka Zartherb is Milka's extra-cocoa bar. Zartherb is German for "delicately bitter," and the full name on the German wrapper is Zartherbe Alpenmilch Schokolade.

It is not a true dark chocolate. It still contains skimmed milk powder, butterfat and whey, so it sits between Milka's regular milk chocolate (33% cocoa minimum) and a classic dark bar. Its cocoa content is at least 45%.

The bar weighs 90g and is made in Germany by Mondelez International, the company behind Milka. Malincho sells it in the USA as an independent retailer.

Taste and serving ideas

How it tastes

Expect a rounder cocoa flavor with a light bitter edge, softened by Milka's creamy, milky base. It is noticeably less sweet than Alpine Milk, but much milder than a 70% dark chocolate.

The texture stays smooth and melts easily, the way Milka fans expect.

Ways to enjoy it

Try a square after dinner with espresso, black coffee or tea. The extra cocoa stands up well to strong drinks.

It is also useful in the kitchen. Melt it for a chocolate sauce that is not overly sweet, or grate it over whipped cream, ice cream or hot chocolate.

Who it is for

Zartherb is a good pick for people who like Milka's smooth melt but find the classic bars too sweet. It can also be an easy first step for milk chocolate fans curious about darker chocolate.

Because it contains milk, it is not suitable for anyone avoiding dairy.

Tasting idea: set out a square each of Milka Alpine Milk and Zartherb side by side to taste how extra cocoa changes the same creamy chocolate.
