About this product

The everyday Milka bar: plain Alpine milk chocolate, nothing mixed in, in the slim 90g size now sold across Germany.

This is the bar most people picture when they hear the word Milka. In Germany it is labeled Milka Alpenmilch, and it is simply milk chocolate made with milk from the Alpine region, with no nuts, fillings or crunchy bits added.

For years the standard tablet weighed 100g. In early 2025 Milka trimmed it to 90g in Germany and other European markets, so that is the size on store shelves today. The recipe and the purple wrapper stayed the same.

The bar is made in Germany by Mondelez International, which owns the Milka brand. Malincho is an independent retailer that sells it in the USA.

Taste and serving ideas

How it tastes

Mild, sweet and very milky, with almost no bitter cocoa edge. The chocolate softens quickly on the tongue, which is why many fans call it the creamiest of the big European brands.

A small amount of hazelnut paste is part of the recipe. You will not taste nuts, but it adds a round, slightly toasty note in the background.

Ways to enjoy it

Thin squares snap off cleanly, so it is easy to share a few with coffee after dinner or tuck a row into a lunchbox. The 90g size fits in a desk drawer, glove box or carry-on bag.

It also makes a quick hot chocolate: melt a few squares into warm milk and whisk until smooth.

A taste of home for many Europeans

For shoppers who grew up in Germany, Austria or Eastern Europe, this plain lilac-wrapped bar is often the first chocolate they remember. It is one of the easiest ways to bring that familiar flavor to a US pantry.

Good to know: four squares (15g) is the portion printed on the European label, so one bar holds about six of them.

Questions and answers

Why is the bar 90g and not 100g?

Milka reduced its standard German tablets from 100g to 90g in early 2025. The chocolate inside is the same recipe.

What is the German name?

It is sold in Germany as Milka Alpenmilch, which means Alpine milk.

Does it contain nuts?

Yes. The recipe includes a little hazelnut paste, and the bar may contain traces of other tree nuts and wheat. It also contains milk and soy.

How many calories are in a serving?

About 81 calories per 4-piece (15g) serving, based on the European label.

Is it gluten free?

Gluten is not an ingredient, but the label warns it may contain wheat, so it is not suitable for anyone who must avoid gluten.

Where is it made?

In Germany. Malincho, an independent retailer, ships it across the USA from New Jersey.

How should I store it?

Keep it cool and dry, ideally between 50 and 68°F. Skip the fridge if you can, since moisture can leave a white bloom on the surface.
