About this product

Smooth Milka Alpine milk chocolate filled with crunchy pieces of Daim, the buttery almond caramel candy from Sweden, in a 90g bar.

This bar brings together two well-known European sweets. The base is Milka's Alpine milk chocolate, and mixed through it are small chips of Daim, a hard, golden almond caramel that is famous in Scandinavia.

The Daim pieces make up about 20% of the bar. In Germany the bar is sold simply as Milka Daim, described on the label as Alpine milk chocolate with almond caramel pieces (Mandelkaramellstückchen).

It is made in Germany by Mondelez International, which owns both the Milka and Daim brands. Malincho sells it in the USA as an independent retailer.

Taste and serving ideas

How it tastes

The chocolate melts first, soft and milky. Then you hit the Daim bits, which crunch and then turn slightly chewy, with a rich toffee flavor and a hint of roasted almond and salt. The contrast between creamy and crunchy is the whole point of this bar.

Ways to enjoy it

Break off a row of squares with an afternoon coffee; the caramel notes go especially well with espresso or a latte.

Chopped up, it makes a great topping for vanilla ice cream, brownies or a bowl of oatmeal. The Daim pieces keep their crunch better than plain chocolate chunks.

What is Daim?

Daim is a thin bar of crunchy almond caramel coated in chocolate, first made in Sweden in the 1950s. Fans of English toffee or Heath bars will find it familiar. In this Milka bar, the Daim comes as small broken pieces spread throughout the chocolate.

Dessert idea: chop a few rows and stir them into whipped cream for a quick toffee-crunch topping on pie or fruit.

Does it contain nuts?

Yes. It contains almonds and hazelnut paste, along with milk and soy. It may also contain traces of wheat.

How many calories are in a serving?

About 81 calories per 4-piece (15g) serving, based on the European label. The 90g bar has about 6 servings.

Is it gluten free?

Gluten is not an ingredient, but the bar may contain traces of wheat, so it is not recommended for anyone who must avoid gluten.

Where is it made?

Is Daim the same as toffee?
